CHURCH HISTORY & CHURCH LIFE
The Lord gathered a number of saints in Edmonton beginning with two sisters in 1978. They worked at the library at the University of Alberta, and they started to get together for prayer and fellowship. Eventually, they began to meet with some saints who came from Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. A number of local saints were added at that time, including a brother who had just been saved.
Around 1981 and 1982, two families moved to the city through much fellowship with the church in Vancouver. In 1984, another family moved from the church in London, Ontario, and the Lord’s table in Edmonton was also established in that year. In 1988, there was yet another family who migrated from the East, this time from the church in Toronto. These migrations in the 1980s greatly strengthened the testimony in Edmonton. Finally, in 1993, the saints acquired a meeting hall.
The city of Lloydminster straddles the Alberta and Saskatchewan border with a population of approximately 31,482 (2013). It is about 250 km, or close to 3 hours drive from Edmonton. Two families emigrated from the churches in the Philippines in the years 2008 and 2009 due to work. Gradually they began to seek fellowship with the church in Edmonton and there was mutual visitation. Eventually, they began meeting regularly every week on Tuesdays and on the Lord’s day in Lloydminster. Two more families from the Philippines would arrive later in 2010 and 2014, respectively.
Since late 2011, the saints in Lloydminster have a pursuit meeting to get into the Life-Study of the Bible. They are also using the Holy Word for Morning Revival following the same schedule as the church in Edmonton. They now join the Lord’s table and prophesying meetings in Edmonton and occasionally they join the meetings in Saskatoon or Calgary. In the summer of 2014, the first Bibles for Canada distribution in Lloydminster was jointly conducted by the local saints and the saints from Edmonton.
