Church in Kitchener

CHURCH HISTORY & CHURCH LIFE

In the mid-1970s, a number of families in Wilmot Township, a municipality 22 km (or 14 miles) outside the city of Kitchener, started meeting in their homes. In 1988, the saints in Wilmot started the Lord’s table as the church in Kitchener and met at the Kitchener YWCA. The meetings were moved to the Kitchener-Waterloo Bilingual School in 2000 and then in 2007 to the Country Hills Community Centre.

Once a month, the saints in Kitchener, Wilmot and Guelph gather together for a joint Lord’s table meeting and the prophesying meeting in Kitchener. On the other three Lord’s Days of the month, all these districts (or outposts) have their own Lord’s table.

In 2004, as a result of a Bible Study in Guelph, there was an increase from believers in that city, which is 25 km from the city of Kitchener. Most were former Catholic charismatics who initially were seeking for more riches in the Word and a deeper experience of Christ. Soon they would begin meeting with the church in Kitchener regularly. In early 2011, a group of Canadian full-timers and some trainees from Anaheim, California visited Guelph. Their presence greatly strengthened and encouraged the local saints there. Since then, new families have moved to the area and are meeting with the saints in Guelph. On Lord’s Days, the saints in Guelph gather to study the truths in the Bible followed by a prophesying time and have the Lord’s table meeting later in the day. In addition, they are joined by several families from Cambridge (42 km or 26 miles from Guelph) and Milton (23 km or 14 miles from Guelph) for the prayer meetings, Bible studies and Friday night fellowship time. Today, Guelph may be considered as an outpost of the church in Kitchener.
