Church in Montreal

CHURCH HISTORY & CHURCH LIFE

Montreal is the second-largest city in Canada and is the second-largest primarily French-speaking city in the world, after Paris. Quebecois French is spoken in the homes by 56.9% of the city’s population. Therefore it has strategic importance in the French-speaking world.

In the latter half of 1981 a few saints in Montreal began meeting for prayer once a week. Shortly after, saints gathered together for Lord’s Day meetings. The Lord’s table began in September of 1986.

There is a very healthy increase of new ones coming to the French-speaking meetings. On Lord’s days, about 25 to 30 French-speakers attend the prophesying time. This increase is largely due to having the French version of the Holy Word for Morning Revival (HWMR) available for the saints to use on a daily basis. This in turn has caused some to pick up the burden to help translate the HWMR books into French. Currently 8 saints are regularly helping with this work.

The French-speaking saints in Montreal also participate in supporting the French-speaking conferences elsewhere around the world, such as those in Europe and in the Caribbean. Montreal is unique in that it has one of the largest French-speaking populations in the world, and the two major French universities in Montreal attract many international students. Hence, the focus is not only to gain local people, but also to blend, support and help other French-speaking localities outside of Canada.
