CHURCH HISTORY & CHURCH LIFE
During the early 1980s, families from different parts of Canada migrated to Winnipeg and began meeting as the church in Winnipeg. The Lord’s table was established in 1983, and intially the church met in homes and in rented facilities.
From 1989 to 1992, the church experienced a significant increase when several Mennonite families came into the church life from Arborg, Manitoba. In 1991, the church finally purchased a meeting hall at 104 Hespeler Avenue, having outgrown the rented facility they had been meeting in. Since 1994, families and students have migrated from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Vancouver and other places. In 2001 the church began an outreach work at the University of Manitoba. In 2004, the meeting hall was sold to help purchase a 10.6-acre piece of land near the University.
In 2008, the church purchased the current meeting hall that is just off the west side of the Perimeter Highway that forms a beltway around Winnipeg. This location was chosen in consideration of a good number of saints living west of Winnipeg in Portage La Prairie and in the St. Francois area. Presently the church is waiting for the city of Winnipeg to develop the area around the 10.6-acre property so a new meeting hall can be built at this location in the near future. This property is only a five-minute drive from the University of Manitoba, and most of the saints in Winnipeg now live in close proximity to this area.
